The University of Chicago's Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for a faculty member at any rank, and invites applications. As a full-time faculty member, the successful applicant will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship, and join a vibrant, diverse, and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. A tradition of excellence in patient care, basic, clinical, and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world's top academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an academic physician.

Clinical responsibilities will include general anesthesia and non-operating room anesthesia environments. We are seeking those with fellowship training in any of the following areas: critical care, cardiac, pain, regional, pediatrics or obstetrics; but especially those with fellowship training or special interest in trauma and/or military background, as UChicago Medicine will open its new Level 1 adult trauma center in May 2018. Other duties will include training and supervision of medical students, residents and fellows, and scholarly activity.

We especially welcome applicants with prior research and engineering training and/or interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. Our department has established a strong relationship with the University of Chicago Polsky Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the #1-ranked university accelerator in the U.S. For junior faculty, we expect enthusiasm, drive, and evidence that you have the potential to succeed. Examples include: first-author publications, successful small grant applications, formal research training. For senior faculty, we expect evidence of sustained scholarly activity. Examples include: successful grant applications as PI, a track record of high-quality publications, and mentorship.

The University has recently made a substantial investment in the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care to advance academic anesthesiology. Our goal is to become one of the leading academic anesthesiology departments in the nation with a special emphasis on clinical and translational research and clinical trials. We pride ourselves on career development and will offer appropriate support to our successful candidates, including protected academic time, start-up funding, access to research training and support via the NIH Clinical and Translational Sciences Award-funded Institute of Translational Medicine.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) have or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be BC/BE Anesthesiologist.
