The primary purpose of the Assistant Director, Perioperative Services, position is to be responsible for providing guidance, clinical expertise, mentoring, and functional direction to members of the health care team while optimizing available resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Working closely and in partnership with the Director, Perioperative Services, execute the vision and the strategy for the center. This role may include, but is not limited to: surgical case management, perioperative patient care coordination, staff education, and organization of quality/performance improvement activities. Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Essential Functions and Objectives
Ensure staff members provide safe patient care in the area managed. Facilitate or serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care. Act as clinical resource for perioperative services staff members within the specialty using evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards. Act as a consultant to advise the perioperative team in areas of specialty expertise. Provide educational resources and coordinate with perioperative educator regarding perioperative team education specific to the specialty. Assist Director, Perioperative Services with budget management. Operationally and fiscally manage the assigned operatory center. Mentor team members within the specialty as required. Participate in interviews for staff selection. Evaluate staff member performance as required. Ensure that the appropriate equipment and supplies are available. Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization. Ensure that educational resources are available for perioperative team education and hold staff members accountable for attendance. Ensure staff member compliance with organizational policies, accreditation standards, governmental regulations, and professional standards of care. Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to perioperative team. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master's degree in nursing, health care administration, business, or other related field highly preferred.
Current registered nurse licensure in state of employment; BLS and ACLS certification
Five years perioperative services experience.
2-5 years of prior leadership experience, preferably in a medical setting.
Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
Use effective conflict resolution techniques.
Exhibit professional, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Possess and provide good customer service skills.
Demonstrate knowledge of project management principals.
Ability to maintain privacy of all appropriate information.
