VA Connecticut is seeking a Physicians Assistant to work in their Endoscopy Unit in the Gastroenterology section of the Medicine Service. The work of this position will mostly be in a clinical setting but a portion of the time will be devoted to administrative and research duties as well as some performance improvement projects. Employee is under supervision of a collaborating physician, and is responsible to the Chief of Endoscopy at WHVA. The duties of the Physician Assistant in the Endoscopy Unit include, but are not limited to: Direct Patient care in the digestive disease clinic, (West Haven and Newington). Independently performing new consultation and endoscopy follow-up patient visits with, history, physical exam, treatment plan and follow up plan with documentation in the patient VA medical records. Performing and interpreting esophageal HRM and pH studies in the endoscopy unit . Performing Gastro-intestinal motility procedures, PEG tube changes, and performance of video capsule endoscopy . Managing all the MyHealthy Vet messages from the GI and Endoscopy clinic patients. Evaluation of patients in the endoscopy unit for urgent outpatient issues, History and physical exams, narcotic prescription, colonoscopy bowel prep prescriptions, medications renewals. Act as the primary contact for patient questions and calls during work hours in the endoscopy unit. Co-ordinate patient care questions with primary care, oncology and surgery, and anticoagulation consultation. Ordering of laboratory and radiology tests independently and on consultation with endoscopy attending. Perform daily review of all endoscopy consults for: indication and urgency, colon prep, medications, anticoagulation, admission, and other clinically relevant information. Perform electronic triage of the consultation and discontinuation of the consult if it is found not to be medically indicated. The annual volume is review of 6000 consultation. Assist the endoscopy director and with the administrative schedule of the endoscopy unit. Update and maintain the GI share point site at the VACT internet home page, including keeping patient lists, tracking endoscopy complications, SOIP duties, and clinic patient lists. Responsible for the administrative maintenance of Endovault workstations in endoscopy is under the director of endoscopy and co-ordination with biomed, IRM and endosoft company. Assist with local administration of the Endovault program and images. Committee assignments to represent the GI or endoscopy unit as requested by the endoscopy director, including WHVA, CT and VISN VA initiatives. Carrying out performance improvement projects related to gastroenterology as directed by the endoscopy director or the VACT administration. Perform and assist in research projects with the physicians of the endoscopy unit. Coverage of all the responsibilities of the APRN during his/her vacation. Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm Monday - Friday Financial Discloser Report: Not required Promotion Potential: The full performance level of this vacancy is PA-III. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of PA-I to PA-III.
